If you really want an outdoor experience, then it doesn’t get much better than a camping trip. Rather than being insulated from the natural world, you’ll be right up against it, even when you’re sleeping. For those looking to break from modern life, and reconnect (albeit temporarily) with their inner hunter-gatherer, it’s an obvious choice.
For families, a camping trip makes particular sense. It’s a chance to expose kids to an entirely different way of living, and to inject a bit of novelty into any given summer. Pack a few essentials: a tent or campervan, some furniture, cutlery and crockery, and you’ll be well on the way. If you’re travelling by campervan, then the appropriate campervan insurance might make a big difference, too.
The UK offers a wealth of high-quality campsites, and the chances are good that there’s a brilliant one near you. A few, however, stand out as worth travelling to.
Tregedna Lodge And Campsite, Cornwall
This twelve-acre site sits near Falmouth, in Cornwall. There’s plenty of room to pitch, and you’ll have easy access to the nearby beach at Maenporth, and Falmouth Bay. As such, it’s an obvious fit if you’ve got kids coming along.
Sea Barn Farm Camping Park, Weymouth
This campsite, in Dorset, offers incredible views of the surrounding Jurassic Coast. From the pitch, you’ll be offered a panoramic vista. On a clear day, you can see the Isle of Portland, Lyme Bay, and Fleet Lagoon. Built into a cattle farm, this is a site that’s perfect for families who’d like a little bit of peace and quiet during their trip.
Red Shoot Camping Park, Hampshire
This family-friendly campsite sits right inside the New Forest, making it a perfect staging ground for those who’d like to visit the woods. There’s an onsite laundry room, a charging point for electric vehicles, and heated showers and toilets. In other words, if you’re taking a tent, you won’t need to fear a weeklong lapse in hygiene! There are so many great places to explore nearby with Ashley Walk in The New Forest being just one that we would recommend.
Catgill Farm, North Yorkshire
On this Yorkshire site, you’ll find a variety of glamping options alongside the standard camping. There’s WiFi, ensuite bathrooms, hot tubs, pizza ovens, and just about every other luxury you might imagine. If you’d like a slice of the outdoors without compromising on modern amenities, this is a great way to do it. If you’d prefer a more traditional camping experience, on the other hand, then you might head over to the campsite, instead.
Camp Kátur Glamping, Yorkshire
Staying in Yorkshire, we find another high-quality glamping location. Camp Katur is a popular wedding venue, and offers glamping in a ‘Geodome’, with all of the same wood-burning stove and charging options that you might find elsewhere.
