The parks

There are a number of famous parks across New York as well as some lesser known ones, all offering something different. Central Park is based in Manhattan and here you will find a traditional park with swings and slides for your children to play as well as numerous other activities to entertain the whole family including, boating, an amusement park in summer and ice skating in winter and Beleverde Castle.

If you are hoping to see Brooklyn Bridge on your trip then why not stop off at Brooklyn Bridge Park with the kids too. It is an 85-acre world-class sustainable park on Brooklyn’s East River shoreline. The is lots to see and do including watching boat launches, a Pebble Beach, the historic Jane’ Carousel, sports fields, basketball courts, a fishing station, basketball courts and some incredible spots to take some selfies with Brooklyn Bridge in the background.

Central Park Zoo

One of the most popular New York City tourist attractions is Central Park Zoo. It is a fascinating Zoo that spans across 7 acres and is divided in to three sections: the Tropic Zone, Temperate Territory, and the Polar Circle. Here you will find a range of animals from snow leopards to penguins, birds to bears and many more. In addition to your traditional zoo experience Central Park Zoo also has a fourth area called the Tisch Children’s Zoo where you will find animals that you would normally expect to find on a farm such as goats and sheep. Located in Manhattan and walking distance from the shops, hotels and restaurants a trip to the zoo will easily fit in with your other plans without spending lots of time on travel.

Madame Tussauds

For a fun family activity why not try some celebrity spotting in New York itself? If not successful then head to Madame Tussauds wax work museum in Times Square where you will be sure to spot a number of recognisable faces, enjoy interactive areas, and have a laugh posing for pictures with your idols. Spread across 5 floors you are bound to find something for everyone.

Ice skating

If you are visiting in the winter then Ice Skating is a must do. You can either skate at the Rockerfella Center or in Central park. There is no need to worry about having your own skates as both attractions allow you to rent skates when you arrive so you can simply turn up and book on and then enjoy skating outside, listening to music and taking in the atmosphere that is unique to New York.

One World Observatory

Whilst in New York you have the perfect opportunity to talk to your children about 911 and remember those that were lost on that tragic day. However, this does not need to be upsetting or depressing as it can be teamed with a trip to the world observatory which has been built  on the site of the World Trade Center, a poignant place bound to open up discussions. Once inside you can ride some of the fastest lifts in the world, walk across a glass floor (if you’re brave enough), take in some incredible views from the highest point in the city and so much more.

Top Tip – Look at getting a New York City Pass for your trip as this will save you money, reduce the queues and generally make your trip easier.
