Breaking Down The Myths Surrounding IVF Treatment

Having a baby changes everything. From your relationship with your partner to the way in which you view the world. As a result, there are few things more exciting than starting your own family. However, not everyone is lucky enough to be able to conceive naturally, and may need to look into other options that allow them to start families, such as adoption and IVF treatment or even fostering

To put it simply IVF treatment is a medical process, first introduced in the 1970s, that allows couples with infertility issues to have their own baby. It is sometimes favoured over adoption as it allows as it uses the eggs and sperm from the couple, meaning they will be biologically related to their child.  It works by extracting an egg from the mother, and hyperstimulating it through the use of special medicines. After this, the egg and sperm are brought together to form an embreyo, which is transferred to the uterus of the mother. However, although IVF treatment has great success rates, with 8 million babies being born through IVF since 1978, there are still many myths floating around on the internet, spreading incorrect information about the process that need to be broken down.

Myth: IVF treatment is too expensive

Although IVF treatment is not the cheapest medical procedure, advances in technology mean that it is gradually becoming more accessible. Furthermore, at the IVF clinic in prague if your treatment is unsuccessful in the early stages, you will often not be charged for the next steps.

Myth: IVF increases your chance of having twins, triplets.

Some types of assisted pregnancy treatments such as fertility drugs can increase the chance of having multiple babies, however, this is not typically the case in IVF treatment. This is because the doctor can control the number of of embryos implanted into the uterus.

Myth: IVF pregnancies are riskier than other pregnancies

IVF treatment focuses primarily on ensuring that couples are able to conceive, through helping the embryo form. Once this procedure has been successfully completed, the pregnancy is the same as any other – and therefore can run into the same complications. As a result, an IVF pregnancy is no riskier than a traditional pregnancy.

Myth: IVF treatment only works for younger couples

IVF treatment is designed to support infertility, which can affect couples of all ages – young and old. As a result, it can help couples of all ages conceive. Although the results do vary depending upon the age of the couple, this does not mean it cannot be used to support parents who may be a little older than average or have been trying to naturally conceive for longer especially if you are taking the time to prepare your body for pregnancy prior to starting IVF to give you optimum success.

It is important to remember that IVF treatment is not straightforward, and may not be the right choice for every couple that are trying to have a baby. However, if you are looking to start a family and are unable to conceive naturally, it is definitely worth further research to find out whether IVF could be the next step in your journey to starting (or adding too) your family.
