You know you’ve come across a good night market when locals actually eat there. Cheap food, an welcoming vibe, and conveniently located in the heart of Krabi Town, Krabi Night Market is one of the best things to do when you’re island hopping in Thailand. Unlike the overpriced and touristy Ao Nang Night Market, you can actually enjoy a relaxed and authentic night market experience without stressing about whether or not you’re being scammed.
So if you’re visiting the region, here’s everything you need to eat and do at Krabi Night Market.
Where Is Krabi Night Market Located And When Is It Open?
Krabi Night Market located between the main road and Chao Fah Park (location here). It’s only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, so make sure to slot it into your itinerary!
The night market opens at 17:30 pm and hits its peak around 19:00 pm with a good mix of locals and tourists. Enjoy delicious eats, cold cocktails, and performances until 22:00 pm when stalls start wrapping up shop.
If you happen to be in Krabi on a weekday, I recommend Black Crab Night Market (Poo Dam Night Market) instead. It’s just a few blocks up (location here) and offers an even cheaper and more authentic local Thai experience. Just know that depending on the day you visit, some stalls may be closed.
So, without further ado, here’s what to eat and do at Krabi Night Market!
Food At Krabi Night Market
Skewers
The skewers at Krabi Night Market are unlike any other! Intermixed with colorful vegetables and featuring generous cuts of unfamiliar meats and seafoods, the skewers at Krabi Night Market are one of the most alluring offers there. Just make sure to pick a busy stall and double check that they cook everything thoroughly. The last thing you want is food poisoning!
Grilled Seafood
Krabi is right on the water so you’ll see a plethora of seafood options at the night market. My favorites were these fried baby shrimp fritters and whole grilled fish. Sure, the bones were a pain to pick out, but it was completely worth it! When paired with prik nam pla (fish sauce and chili dipping sauce) and fresh herbs, it made for the most flavorful and filling meal.
Fresh Spring Rolls
I know, I know, not the most traditional Thai street food, but we all need to eat some veggies when we’re traveling, right? The spring roll vendor was a mother and son duo selling fresh and healthy spring rolls and I couldn’t resist. There were six different protein options to choose from and three different dipping sauces. They were so sweet that I couldn’t help but mention them on this list.
Traditional Desserts
From mango sticky rice to pandan-flavored coconut pancakes (kanom krok) and colorful coconut candies (khanom tom), traditional Thai desserts are the perfect way to wrap up a meal. Stuffed? Forgo the solid options and go for a refreshing beverage instead. Whether you’re looking for a sweet cocktail, Thai tea, coconut smoothie, or fresh-squeezed fruit juice, the options at Krabi Night Market are endless!
Things To Do At Krabi Night Market
Catch A Performance
There’s a huge stage in the center of the night market that features nightly performances from local artists. When I visited, there were quite a few students showing off their singing capabilities with covers of popular artists like Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift. Grab a beer and enjoy the show before you move on to the next activity.
Shopping
Krabi Night Market is pretty heavily centered around food but you can still do some shopping when you’re done eating! Pick up some handmade jewelry for your loved ones at home or a new linen shirt to add to your travel capsule wardrobe. I appreciate that their souvenir options are a little more unique, but do want to warn you that the selection is pretty limited.
Krabi Night Market was one of my favourite dinner spots while exploring the surrounding islands. I found the atmosphere to be a little more manageable and loved that I got to enjoy some more local dishes. Whether you’re staying in Krabi Town, or visiting from Ao Nang or the Phi Phi Islands, I highly recommend you check out this night market!
