Top Tips to Follow when you’re Trying for a Baby Girl

Congratulations! If you have found this article then the chances are you have decided to try for a baby and that’s super exciting in itself. If you are planning on trying for a baby and are interested in sex selection with a preference for a baby girl over a baby boy then these top tips are for you. However, it is important to note that determining the sex of your baby is ultimately a matter of chance, and these are not proven methods that will guaranteed to result in a specific gender. That being said some people do believe the below methods have positively worked for them so you may still want to give them a try and have some fun in the process.

Globally, slightly more male babies are born than female babies every year. On average there are about 105 boys for every 100 girls. This means for every 1,000 babies born, approximately 512 will be boys and 488 will be girls, so when it comes to leaving sex selection to mother nature you are more likely to have a boy than you are a girl. Let’s see if we can change that.

If you’re still interested in trying for a baby girl, here are some tips that may help you:

Diet and Nutrition

Some people believe that certain dietary changes can influence the PH levels of the body, making it more favorable for the conception of a specific gender. For conceiving a little girl, it is believed that increasing your intake of calcium and magnesium is more beneficial. So to increases your chances of having a girl try and introduce more dairy products, nuts, and leafy green vegetables in to your diet.

Others believe that avoiding salty and potassium-rich foods, like bananas, will help you conceive a girl because these types of foods supposedly create an environment that favors male sperm.

However, following a strict diet when trying to conceive is not advised.

Alkaline Environment

Some believe that creating a more alkaline environment in the female reproductive tract might be favorable for the survival of female sperm. Eating alkaline-promoting foods and avoiding highly acidic foods might be suggested. If you want to check your alkaline levels you can do so using an alkaline testing kit that you use at home. Alternatively a more acidic environment is more likely to result in a baby boy.

Timing of Intercourse (Shettles Method and the Whelan Method)

Some theories suggest that having intercourse closer to the day of ovulation may increase the chances of conceiving a girl. The optimum time according to the Whelan method is 2-3 days prior to ovulation.  The reason being that since female sperm (X chromosomes) are thought to be slower but more robust than boy sperm (Y chromosome), having intercourse a few days before ovulation might give female sperm a better chance of reaching and fertilizing the egg.

Cycle Tracking and timing of sex

Understanding your menstrual cycle and ovulation patterns may help you time intercourse more effectively. There are ovulation prediction kits and fertility apps available that can help pinpoint your fertile window so that you are not only trying for a baby when you are most fertile but so that you can also try for a baby closer to ovulation in the hope it results in a baby girl.

Sex Positions

A common belief is that certain sexual positions may influence the sex of the baby conceived. For those trying for a girl, positions that allow for shallower penetration such as the missionary position are often recommended, conversely those wanting a boy should try sex positions that result in deep penetration.

Frequency of Intercourse

Lots of theories suggest that frequent intercourse leading up to ovulation day may reduce the number of fast-moving male sperm in favor of the slower female sperm. so it’s advised to have sex more often when trying for a baby girl.

Some of the more unusual methods (or old wives tales as their often called)  for  sex selection are below, however the success rate of these is probably significantly lower than the ones above.

Lunar or Chinese Gender Prediction

Some people refer to old methods like the Chinese Gender Chart or Lunar Calendar, which claim to predict the sex of a baby based on the mother’s age and the month of conception. These methods are more cultural and fun than scientifically supported but if you are willing to give anything a go then it might be worth looking in to.

Sleep Facing South

If you want to conceive a baby girl then the advice is to start sleeping with your head pointing south.

Body Temperature

Make sure you keep your feet warm during conception if you want a girl and cold if you want a boy! Sex with your socks on might be the new trend!

Stress levels

Another old tale suggests that high stress levels increase the chances of conceiving a girl, while low stress favors boys, however if that was the case I feel like there would be more girls in the world than boys statistically plus I’m not sue making yourself stressed before conceiving is a good idea.

The Spoon Under the Bed

This method definitely wins for it’s quirkiness. The a wooden spoon under the tale states that is you place a wooden spoon under your bed  or a pink ribbon under your pillow you will have a little girl. Alternatively place a knife under the bed if you want a boy.

Remember, these tips are not scientifically proven, and many factors contribute to a baby’s sex. It’s crucial to focus on overall health, maintain a balanced lifestyle, enjoy a healthy diet, ensure you are a healthy weight and consult with healthcare professionals for personalised advice to ensure you conceive and deliver a healthy baby.

If you have specific preferences or concerns, discussing them with a healthcare provider will be beneficial as they can provide valuable guidance and accurate information, they can also address issues around gender disappointment, genetic disorders, hereditary diseases and high risk pregnancy factors based on your family background and that of your partner.

If you decide to try any, or all, of these methods when trying for a baby girl, good luck, we really hope they work for you.
